Plaiting Fan Palm
Get out your fan palm leaf.
Step 1: Trim the spines on the main stem. They are sharp. You don’t have to completely remove them. Just remove enough of each spine so it is not sharp any longer.
SSeparate the leaf into sections. Use the natural sections of the leaf. Some sections are wider and have wide halves. You can separate those if you want to.
Step 1:
Take 3 leaves from either side. Fold the outermost leaf over the 2nd leaf.
Step 2: Fold the 3rd leaf over the second.
Continue folding from taking the outer and folding it over the inner. Then the inner outer over the middle. Just like a braid. The only difference is that you are folding the leaf over.
Step 4: Do this braiding for 7 – 10 times.
Step 5: Add the first section into the braid. Grab the 4th section. After you have folded, lay the 4th section on top of the fold, so that section is now in the middle of your braid.
Step 6: Braid the outer left over the newly added leaf.
Add the next section on your next fold.
Step 7. Continue until you have reached the end of your frond.
Step 8. Trim off any extra hairs that fan palms seem to get.
Use your new plaited fan palm in an arrangement.
