Fall 2024 Flowers with Jen Syllabus

Week 1:  Home Design – Monochrome 

Create a standard round design using materials in 1 color. Green materials do not count.

IMPORTANT: Meet at the Trader Joes on El Camino at Town and Country. For those of you who don’t need the trip, meet at our standard spot around 3:15.

Difficulty: Easy            Rec Vase: Cylinder

Week 2:  Curly Willow 

Incorporate Curly Willow into your design. My plan is to do a Transparent Screen using Curly willow and grasses. You can choose to do this or make another structure using Curly Willow.

Difficulty: Varies depending how much you want to manipulate your Curly Willow.     Rec Vase: Cylinder

Week 3:  Sheltering 

Create a design using an element that will float above the rest of your design. This will give the look of your floating element sheltering the design.

Difficulty: Engineering for Sheltering element will be the most difficult part.        Rec Vase: low vase

Week 4:  Facing 

Create a facing design. This is a design that is typically placed in front of a wall.

Difficulty: Easy   Rec vase: low vase

Week 5:  Solid Screen 

There will be a materials fee of $6. This fee is to cover a specific kind of floral foam that is necessary,this is not a special kind that you can not buy locally and is pretty expensive to order on line.

Difficulty: Intermediate due to engineering and time investment.     Rec Vase: low vase

Week 6:  Halloween Pumpkin

All materials will be provided. There will be a materials fee of $30.

Difficulty: Super Easy

Week 7:  Only 1 Material

Create a design using only 1 material. I recommend finding a material that has: Leaves, Flowers / Seed Pods, Stems that are interesting. The  larger variety of elements will make this design better. 

 Difficulty: Mainly difficult in terms of sourcing your material.   Rec Vase: any type. Sometimes the weirder the container the better.

Week 8:  Mass / Line

Create a mass and then add a line. This is to show the impact a line can make when added to an arrangement. Lines can be wire, branches, dried materials, etc.

Difficulty: Easy.  Rec Vase:

Rec Vase: any type. Sometimes the weirder the container the better.

Week 9:  Unconventional Materials

Incorporate unconventional materials into a floral design. There are all sorts of unconventional materials. 

Difficulty: Variable

Week 10: Thanksgiving

Create a Thanksgiving Themed Design. This design can be anything you want, there is no special design that is assigned for this project. The main thing is to connect your arrangement to Thanksgiving.

Difficulty: Variable. Rec Vase: undecided yet.
