Ornamental Kale can be used as either a flower or a green. In this case it is being used as a flower.

Notes: Mass is a large volume of something. It can be a large group of people, a heavy weight or a large volume. In this case, the floral portion of the arrangement is the mass. A mass arrangement in and of itself is a perfectly beautiful arrangement, but by adding line we are elevating the arrangement into more of an artistic statement.
