Beginning Contemporary Syllabus

Learn to create a contemporary composition using the blocking method. 

Week 1 – Introduction to Block Design Method

Create an arrangement using the block method with at least 3 different materials.

Materials needed: Standard Cylinder vase, 3 bunches of different materials. They can be any type of material: Green, Main, Subordinate. 

Week 2 – Pave Design

Examine more closely the texture of materials.

Materials needed: Low Vase, materials you sign up for on the spreadsheet link I send.

Week 3 – Smooth materials 

Create a block design using materials in the same texture. 2 or more different materials.

Materials Needed: a vase, at least 3 bunches of materials in whatever type you select, but pay attention to the texture of the materials you select. For Example get all smooth materials, all fuzzy, ruffly, spikey, etc.

Week 4 – Different Textured materials

Create a block design using materials you purposely selected that are of different textures.

Materials Needed: Vase and at least 3 different materials – with a minimum of 2 different textures. 

Week 5 – On Your Own

Create a block design of your own choosing.

Suggestion for people wanting to push themselves – choose only 1 material. In this particular case you might need 4 bunches of whatever you choose, because you will need enough to create an overall shape other than a sphere.
