Contemporary Design Guidelines
When working with lots of smaller high value texture materials blocking is the best bet. It allows these materials to get the most bang for their buck, because grouping blocked materials gives the viewer a chance to appreciate the texture of each material.
Depending on the amount of material you don’t have to have all the same material grouped together in the design. You can more than 1 block of say carnations, there just have to be enough in each block to have enough volume to consider it a block.
Blocking – vertical:
- Is there an overall shape to the piece?
- Each block should have it’s own shape.
- Remember to have a variety of height.
- can you see the stems at the lip of the vase (generally speaking you do not want to see them)
