Winter 2025 Flowers with Jen

Week 1: Traditional Design – Warm Color

  One of the most common home designs. Usually viewed from all sides, perhaps put on the table.

Difficulty: Easy
Vase Rec.: Cylinder

Greens Only: I will supply greens. You will need to fill 3/4 the volume of your vase.

Week 2: Window Box Composition

A design that I am not sure has a formal name, but I call it window box. It’s a row of flowers of varying heights, can be 360 or 180.

Difficulty level: Some Engineering
Vase Rec: Low

Greens Only: I will supply greens. 

Week 3: Terracing

I don’t really have a good example of this.

Layers of materials make a terrace, this is based on the natural world’s rock layers, arranged in a stepwise fashion. in this image the bottom leaves are terraced.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Vase Rec: Low

Greens Only People: I will supply greens. You will need to supply flowers to fill 3/4 of the vase. I recommend 3 different kinds that are of different colors.

Week 4: Framing – Valentine’s Day

Create a frame around one element of your design.

Difficulty: Intermediate due to engineering
Vase Rec: cylinder

Greens Only People: I will supply framing material and greens. You will need to fill 3/4 the volume of your vase.

Week 5:  Leaves Only

Make an arrangement using only leaves. They can be beautiful in and of themselves so lets take a moment to appreciate them.

Difficulty: Easy
Vase Rec: Low 

Greens Only: I will supply leaves for this arrangement.

Week 6: Structure 

Create a structure that will be viewed as a part but also shown off in an arrangement. Structures can sometimes become the frog for an arrangement, depending on the type and orientation, however in this case the structure still must be visible. Our structure will not be the same as what is in the example.

Difficulty Level: Time consuming, some engineering.
Vase Rec: cylinder

Greens Only: I will supply structure construction materials and greens. You will need to fill 3/4 the volume of your vase.

Week 7: Radiating

An arrangement with line elements radiating like sun rays out of the center of an arrangement.

Difficulty Level: Moderate due to engineering for “rays”.
Vase Rec: Low

Greens Only: I will supply greens. You will need to fill 3/4 the volume of your vase with some materials that have tall stems.

Week 8: Plaiting Palm into Nautilus shape

Plait (Braid) palm leaves into a nautilus shape and incorporate them into your design.

Difficulty Level: Advanced due to plaiting of palm leaves. You can choose to modify this if you get frustrated with plaiting.
Vase Rec: Any

Greens Only: I will supply greens and palms for plaiting. You will need to fill 3/4 the volume of your vase.
