Beginning Traditional Practical Syllabus
Learn how to create a standard traditional 360 degree arrangement. In this composition flowers are evenly distributed throughout the arrangement allowing viewers from all sides to see each of the different floral materials.
All materials should be different heights. This encourages the viewer to spend a bit more time looking at the arrangement.
Week 1 – Introduction
Introduction to the Block Method.
Materials Needed: Random Bunch of Flowers (1 large bunch of random flowers from your local store) This amount will fit in the vase specified.
Week 2 – Analogous Colors
Create a traditional arrangement using materials purposely selected in the analogous color scheme. For this class we will meet at the local Trader Joes.
Materials Needed: Your Regular Cylinder Vase, 1 bunch of Main Flowers, 1 bunch of Subordinate Flowers and 1 bunch of green materials. For a fuller arrangement add another bunch of greens and / or filler flowers. Pay attention to the colors of the flowers to make sure they fit an analogous color scheme.
Week 3 – Complimentary Colors
Create a traditional arrangement using materials purposely selected in the complementary color scheme.
Materials Needed: Same as Week 2 but with flowers in a complementary color scheme.
Week 4 – Monochrome
Create a traditional arrangement using materials purposely selected to be in 1 color.
Materials Needed: Same as Week 2 but with flowers all in the same color. For example all Yellow, or all red, etc.
Week 5 – on your own
Suggestion: Create a larger size arrangement with more different kinds of flowers. Integrating more different kinds of materials can be a challenge for beginners.
